How ABRSM Exams Are Marked
There are 150 marks available in total. Maximum marks for each section are:
- Pieces/Songs – 30 marks for each of the three pieces or songs
- Scales and arpeggios (or unaccompanied song for singers ) – 21 marks
- Sight-reading – 21 marks
- Aural tests – 18 marks
The result categories are:
- Distinction: 130-150
- Merit: 120-129
- Pass: 100-119

Performance (digital) Instrumental & Singing exam dates

Digital Performance Grade exams are now available on demand. There are no booking periods or exam sessions. Instead, candidates submit their exam video whenever they are ready at any time within 28 days of booking. Your child’s Tutor will advise when he/she is ready to sit the exam.
Music Theory Grades 1-5 (online) exam dates
Candidates can choose when to take an online Music Theory exam for Grades 1 to 5. Once the exam is booked, candidates have 28 days in which to sit their exam. They can choose any date and time during this period. Your child’s Tutor will advise when he/she is ready to sit the exam.
